Guess who's back~~
Bobby introduces TETSUYA as a special guest and says he changed a lot XD
TETSUYA: Well my hairstyle changed.
Joshima and Nao compliment him on the new uneven look but Bobby wonders what he did wrong to look like that.
TETSUYA: Eh.. Nothing's wrong, I just wanted to look like this.
So it's been a month since the last time he was on the show, and the World Tour is half over.
Bobby had forgotten all about it XD
TETSUYA: Thanks for always emailing me though, Bobby.
Bobby: I thought you might be getting bored though.
Nao: What did you send?
TETSUYA: He wrote me to say... good luck on the tour.
Bobby: But did you understand what I really meant?
TETSUYA: I think you meant... bring me souvenirs.
Banana's only in for a short time, and barely had time to pop in to the show.
TETSUYA: I just finished doing my laundry and now I have to pack again!
Joshima wants to know about MSG so Banana explains about how L'Arc were the first Asian artists to ever headline there.
TETSUYA: The journalists in NYC took more pictures of me than hyde! The pictures of me are all bigger than the pictures of him. Isn't that weird?! It must be my new hair.
Bobby: But I thought MSG was a sports arena?
Nao had no idea but the guys all agree that it's better known for sports.
TETSUYA: I got the idea for this hairstyle in HK actually. It's trendy there, and most of our local staff guys had it so I wanted to try it out.
As for Thailand, TETSUYA compares it to the first time he visited the country, 13 years ago for promos with hyde.
TETSUYA: There were people there with signs saying they waited 13 years. It was amazing!
Joshima: What about Shanghai?
TETSUYA: It was the 3rd time in Shanghai, and every time I go the city is completely different!! That city evolves so fast and its beautiful and the fans are SYTLISH!! It's amazing compared to 2005. But the stage was kind of small back then since it was a gymnasium. This time we were in an arena they built for the Shanghai Expo, I think. It's so cool, like a giant spaceship. There's nothing like it in Japan.
Next, about Taiwan:
TETSUYA: It was amazing. And hot. Though I think the fans in the back couldn't see, the venue was a lot like Makuhari Messe. And we had no dressing rooms, just a tent back stage.
Bobby: Was it outdoors?
TETSUYA: No, it just didn't have special dressing rooms. It was too big.
Nao asks how the fans were and TETSUYA says the other Asian countries are all MUCH louder than Japan ^^
TETSUYA: They cheer and scream as soon as we show up. It's impressive.
Bobby: This makes me want to be a musician too.
Back to MSG - he talks about seeing all the pictures of famous artists who played there and how he felt about performing in the same place as people he looked up to.
He shows them pictures from the New York Times, but it doesn't show Banana's new hair.
TETSUYA: You can't tell? You don't gozonji 8D
He tries to explain that the "yuumei" (fame) tshirt he's wearing in the pic was really trendy 20, 30 years ago in New York, but nobody knows what he's talking about.
TETSUYA: Nobody knows what I'm talking about, everybody kept asking what it was. But it was the only thing I could possibly wear for MSG.
Of course, Bobby is the only one who can actually READ the NYT article XD
Bobby: It says you threw bananas and lollipops at the crowd!
TETSUYA: Yeah, I do that 8D
TETSUYA: I say it in every language. So in New York I said: Do you wanna eat my Fucking Banana? Do you wanna rick my lollipop?
TETSUYA: Everyone yelled OH MY GOD and grabbed them. Oh, maybe this is why the pictures are mostly of me.
Bobby reads the rest and summarizes that its mostly about the band history.
Bobby: What's this "otakon" thing?
TETSUYA: It's a Japanese culture convention they have every year. We played there once, for our first show in America.
Bobby: Can I keep this article?
TETSUYA: Sure. I have the original at home. How often do you get to be in the New York Times?? Isn't this great?
Bobby: It's great to talk with a man who sold out the MSG!
TETSUYA: It didn't sell out actually :/ We'll have to try again and sell it out next time.
He explains that they originally had the 5000 person Theater, but it filled fast so they tried for the 20 000 person MSG.
TETSUYA: We only got about 12 000 people, but that's OK. Its just that there's no middle ground between the tiny one and the huge one. I think it's pretty good, even American artists don't always sell that many tickets.
They're still squeeing about MSG when the song comes up.
- CHASE -
Joshima: You know, just before you got here, Bobby was trying to convince Nao to go to your live with him.
Bobby: I just.. want to GO! I'll be good.
TETSUYA: Are you sure you're not just using L'Arc as an excuse to hit on Nao?
Nao: I want to go too....
TETSUYA: Well you should all go!
Joshima starts saying they can all go to the Tokyo ones but Bobby insists it has to be outside Japan. Maybe Korea 8D
TETSUYA: That's too bad! I have tickets for Tokyo but not for Seoul.
He has to explain to Bobby where exactly the National Gymnasium is and why its great that L'Arc can play there (they don't usually hold rock concerts there)
Joshima: But before that there's London, Paris, Singapore, and Jakarta.
Bobby reads the dates and trips over the name of the Tokyo one.
TETSUYA also explains why the Osaka tickets are so expensive - its because it includes admission to the USJ amusement park :3
Nao: That sounds fun! Lets go there.
TETSUYA: Ok! Go to Osaka!
Bobby: (squeaking) I want to go to Singapore!
TETSUYA: They have a Universal Studios Singapore, I think.
TETSUYA clarifies that he really expects them to show up, and that he has another friend going (to Tokyo I think) so they'll all have dinner together.
Joshima: I'll ask my manager if I can go.
Half the show has passed by the time they get to the fanmail XD
First letter is from a girl who wants boyfriend advice - he's being bossy about pointless things like what she should wear and eat. What do they think, especially Nao?
Nao: I think its OK if you love each other, because it means he's thinking about what's best for you.
TETSUYA: Are you sure? Is it really for her, or just for his own preferences?
They wonder out loud how likely it is that the boyfriend really is looking out for the writer's health and stuff. Because if not, then it's not OK.
Nao: That would be kind of creepy...
She thinks about it and concludes that she wouldn't want to do things like that and change her way of life to please a boyfriend.
Bobby: But once you get married you can boss him around instead, because the wife always gains power like that.
He explains that his relationship completely changed when he got married, but Joshima wonders if its not mostly because he was still learning about Japanese culture and eventually adjusted to it.
Nao's final conclusion is that it depends how the letter-writer really feels. If she doesn't like it, she shouldn't put up with it.
TETSUYA: If he's that picky, he should have been picky BEFORE dating.
Joshima asks for an example, and TETSUYA says something like "Make them stop smoking"
Joshima: You can't stand smokers?
TETSUYA: Well.. not exactly.
(Bird: But now there's only ken left, so he's winning!)
Bobby talks about his own marriage a bit more and gets teased when he talks about the whole "not from Japan" thing, in TETSUYA's playful way.
TETSUYA: It's ok, you have girlfriends all over the world now.
Bobby: No I don't!
- New TOKIO song -
(I missed the question due to technical problems on my computer)
Bobby is talking about a recipe of some kind, for a drink.
Seems he didn't discover coffee until he got to Japan, since Nigeria, being a British colony, only had tea culture :p
Nao drinks fruit juice every morning. It's a mix of apple, kiwi, yuzu, and some kind of leafy green.
She discovered it through a friend and it's really delicious as well as healthy.
Nao: I can feel it make my stomach move!
Joshima asks TETSUYA about interesting food from the world tour.
TETSUYA: Mostly I ate Chinese food, since it's always good. Even in Bangkok.
Bobby: But why didn't you eat Thai food?
TETSUYA: I had Japanese food in New York! But it was creative, high-class Japanese food, and it was delicious.
Pretty much the only foreign stuff he had was western-style hotel breakfasts ^^
Bobby: Did you try strawberry sushi? I had that in America once! It's a dessert, really.
TETSUYA: I might not have tried that, actually. (He hmmms)
Joshima asks which place had the best Chinese food, and he says it was the Peking duck in Shanghai.
Joshima: Isn't that kind of like having Sapporo Ramen in Kyushu?
As for the restaurant itself, he knew it from before. It's really famous but he had no idea and just randomly found it on a previous trip.
TETSUYA: I had soba in NYC, and in Bangkok. It was good!
He was surprised though that the tofu in China wasn't "dessert tofu" like they have at Chinese restaurants in Japan.
He managed to order some dishes he likes in Taipei that weren't technically on the menu, too.
TETSUYA: The friend I was with was amazed and thought they should add it to the menu.
He goes on about various Chinese food dishes that he likes and how they were different in Taipei, Shanghai, and HK.
The others talk about their Chinese food preferences too and it leads to a conversation about how Ramen is mostly Japanese now even though it originally came from China.
They also have to explain that some of the dishes Bobby likes are originally Japanese and not Chinese :p
Bobby is sad that a thing he liked (yamcha? yumcha?) disappeared, but the others can't commiserate since they have no idea what he's talking about.
TETSUYA: OK, Bobby. Let's go out for Chinese together.
Bobby: But it's expensive.
TETSUYA: We'll split the bill.
- Fantasista by Miyano Mamoru -
(Of all the random songs!)
Joshima: So you're heading back out for the rest of the world tour?
Joshima: How are you feeling?
TETSUYA: It's so much fun I want to do it all over again! And it's not even over yet.
Bobby whispers that he wishes he could be as genki and awesome as TETSUYA, and they end laughing XD
Birdnote: While I expect Banana will be on next week too since they record 2 at a time, I will not be around to report due to chasing Banana all the way to Europe.
If/when I get a recording, I'll post then!
SEE YOU IN L'ONDON and/or PARIS!
